The ARP Pro Soloist was one of the first commercially successful preset synthesizers. The Pro-Soloist has been used by Tangerine Dream, Tony Banks (Genesis), Coldcut, Gary Numan, Herbie Hancock. It was later followed up by the Pro/DGX in 1977. Because of its aftertouch feature, it's simply one of the most playable and expressive solo instruments Arp ever made. The Pro-Soloist is a compact and basic monosynth best suited to leads.

A friend got given a CS40m once. I was on the tail end of the gravy train about 5 years ago when I started to get into synths and got some nice deals (and also missed many more). The pro soloist is a single oscillator synth, so dont bother with more than one oscillator.Ah the old days.
I was always way more tempted to sell gear I got a really good deal on as opposed to stuff I paid a lot of money for.I actually got an amazing deal a couple of months ago on Ebay of all places. Some great deals, made better by not having to pay customs/shipping, but nothing amazing.Good for your friend, wonder if he will sell it and for how much. Be it thrift stores, Craigslist/Kijiji or through friends. I haven't seen a really great amazing deal locally in 2 years.
I took the beatup one and sold it within 24 hours for $250 on Ebay once the other one got here and I confirmed that the $35 one was perfectly working and in much, much better condition.If they weren't so close to my work I wouldn't even bother with thrift stores anymore. I had a beat up one that was missing knobs and hardly outputting sound and it did the same thing. I thought to myself "I bet you it works". Lots of old drum machines do that as the power light doubles as a tempo marker. In the listing the guy said he didn't think it worked because as soon as he turned on the power the light went off again. Well on Ebay there was a BIN for one in quite nice shape that had been up for four days already in his ebay store for $35.
Goodwill, VV, Sally Ann and some indies are within a few minutes so when I have nothing else to do I go through them on my lunchbreak. I used to drive to ones out of my way but don't bother anymore. I'm going anyway and there's tons of clothes.But within 15 minutes of my work there's like 6 of them. I might start buying clothes for myself though. I don't bother digging for buying just 1 LP or 1 CD anymore. Sometimes I will buy records or CDs but only if a big disco, funk, experimental or electronic collection is dropped off.
Other than finding the Korg.Mostly I just look at Kijiji, waiting to relive the old days where I'd (often) just drop everything run to the bank machine and go get the score. Used to stop at every single one back in my vinyl days and don't recall seeing a lot of music gear out. Want to buy one but they've got to show up at a thrift store eventually and don't want to pay to ship one in.I don't bother with garage sales period these days. I'm honestly amazed I've never found any old analog drum boxes, vintage rack or pro gear or even a Casio VL-1 or VL-10. Probably would have bought it if it was an ESQ-1 even for $200. I wished it could have been a ESQ-1 other any other vintage synth.
